Due to animals being used as a form of entertainment, in many parts of the world, wild animals are locked in cages or abused—for example, there was heavy criticism of a zoo in Gaza, Palestine for declawing a 14-month old lioness so that visitors could play with it. Its claws were clipped using wire cutters, which caused its paws to bleed profusely. Afterwards, they continued to clip the animal’s nails even further down.

Circuses, on the other hand, are typically even worse as they force animals to perform acts to entertain visitors. These animals are subjected to the rigors of training, performance and transportation. They are born in captivity and live out their live in an unnatural and stressful environment. They are far from happy living in cramped cages, and receiving beatings for not performing properly. They become depressed and are not given the opportunity to socialize like an ordinary animal.

Fortunately, all circuses do not have to be like this—and a circus in Germany is changing the way people view this type of entertainment. The circus, called Circus Roncalli, is the first in the world to use the latest technology to replace animals with holograms. The animations are projected to a life-size version of the animal. You can see all types of animals such as elephants, monkeys and even fish run, swim and perform on stage.
